it is well with mE !

“Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him” (Ecc.8:12).

COMMENTARY:

There is wisdom in fearing God. Fear in this context does not imply slavish fear. Rather, it connotes giving God due respect, reverence, and veneration. It implies the need for us to hallow Him. By extension, it infers we do not take Him for granted or get too familiar with Him. We relate with Him with utmost respect and awe, while He keeps loving us. Consequences abound in the event of our not relating with Him on respectable and reverential levels. Moses, much as he spoke with God face to face, and much as he received the accolade of being the meekest man ever to have lived, was still found guilty of this inaction. So much so that, at the tail end of his life and ministry, God told him (Moses), in a strong and stern term, “because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” (Num.20:12). His familiarity with God eroded the high values of inherent fear he had for God, relatively with the initial meeting at the burning bush. Familiarity, they say, breeds contempt!

Of a truth, it is to our benefit and advantage that we fear God. Our refusal and failure to fear Him does not take anything from Him. It does not make Him less- God, either. Instead, it pays off much more for us to give Him the ultimate respect- obey His instructions to the letter, follow all His dictates, even when humanly speaking, our fear and obedience of Him, do appear not to make sense, since “God has chosen the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.”(1 Cor. 1:27). Too much trust in, and belief in ourselves, smartness, wisdom, and what have you, widens the gap between us and God. Our exposition, education, self -reliance take us no where, either. Hannah affirmed, “by strength shall no man prevail.” (1 Sam.2:9).

If the life of an unrepentant sinner is prolonged, in sin, it is not for the betterment of his life. Except he repents, evil shall be his company continually, “evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous, good shall be repaid.” (Pr.13:21). The simple rule of life in this case is summed up in the statement of the writer of Ecclesiastes. He instructed unequivocally, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (Ecc.12:13-14).

The fear of God in us, brings us to a level of righteousness that breaks all doors of barriers between us and Divinity. It then behoves on us to jettison evil and seek righteousness before we can lay claim to God-given wellness. Nothing as beautiful as the wellness from God that comes with peace like a river, “So that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the LORD.” (Acts 3:19).

KEY TEXT: “Say to the righteous, it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.” (Is.3:10).

SIDEBAR: Our refusal and failure to fear Him does not take anything from Him. It does not make Him less- God.

It pays off much more for us to give Him the ultimate respect- obey His instructions to the letter, follow all His dictates, even when humanly speaking, our fear and obedience of Him, do appear not to make sense.

PRAYERS:

LORD, I pray for the grace to continually fear You, more, to honor You, more and to reverence You, more.

I shall NOT be too full of myself to give You all honor, fear and adoration due You.

It is well with me and my household. Amen!

PRAYER OF SALVATION:

Peradventure you want to accept the LORD as your Savior, you may please pray thus: LORD JESUS, I repent, confess, and forsake my sinful ways and I surrender my life to You. I accept You as my LORD and Savior. Amen!
