The LORD god of all flesh!
“Behold, I am the LORD God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” (Jer.32:27)

INTRODUCTION:
Prophet Jeremiah, otherwise known by his pseudonym, ‘the weeping prophet’, to whom biblical scholars ascribed the authorship of the book of Lamentations , was a 7th-6th Hebrew prophet, born into a priestly family in Anatoth. His experience in the hands of the authorities of his days, in his ministry that spanned about forty years, ( 627-586 BC ), was not an enviable one for any of God’s vessels to desire. A brief insight into this shows that the hallmarks of his ministry were severe persecutions, rejection, and loneliness, up to imprisonment, multiple times . Above all, he was forbidden to marry, “the word of the LORD came to me, saying, you shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons and daughters in this place.” (Jer.16:1-2). The crux of his message included God’s judgement, the need to repent, and the hope of a new covenant. In all, he was a firebrand prophet that fearlessly preached the word to his generation, regardless of the consequences.
God Is Not A Man:
God is not a man. Hence, He is intentional in His dealings. Whatever He says, He does,“God is not man that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent : “has He said it and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken , and shall He not make it good?” (Num.23:19). He does not threat; He rather would send warning(s). Whenever He issues such warnings, He acts accordingly, except in rare cases of pleas from the targeted audience or victim. It was against this backdrop of disseminating, probably one of the harsh and truthful messages, from Jeremiah, that drew the ire of the Israelites, against his ministry. The theme of Jeremiah’s message here is that God being the Creator of all beings, (Flesh), has control over them, (His creations), and deals with us per time. At this time in discussion, He was going to turn the city of Judah and its inhabitants over to the Nebucahdnezzar-led Babylonian army. This was a payback consequent of their rebellion and unrepentant worship of idolatry. This is not saying God was a harsh God, rather it was a way of telling us that as our God, He can make us see how He much power He can wield, in situations we prove stubborn and recalcitrant . We are mere clay in His hand and He might choose to mould us in the right path whichever way He feels deem. He said,“for the children of Israel have provoked Me only to anger with the work of their hands.” (Jer.32:30).
In all, He remains a merciful God that does not allow His children to suffer the repercussions for too long. He does it just that we learn from our errors. In the meantime, He will explain the details of the content of their case file, with zinger, such as ,“behold I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in My anger, in My fury, and in great wrath.” (Jer.32:37a). And in a short while, He said,“I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.” (Jer.33:37b). Even in that state, He still remains our God and we are still His people...“They shall be My people, and I will be their God; then I will give them one heart…that they may fear Me” (Jer.32:37-39). All He wanted was for us to be reformed . Hence, “His anger is but for a moment” (Ps.30:5). His anger towards us does not last long, except in rare cases, like that of Pharaoh.
EXCEPTIONS :
The LORD God of all flesh, as seen so far in this submission, is a God that has the final say, on all flesh. Yes, because He created them all. He has absolute control over them. Hence, we see Him at one point handing over His children to the enemies for intentional discipline, not out of personal hatred, rather, just a way of Him correcting some anomalies. This was one of His means of redirecting His children from their misbehaviors, especially whenever they cried out to Him, “and it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried out to the LORD because of the Midianites.” (Jud.6:7), and almost immediately after this distress cry, He summoned Gideon, “go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” (Jud.6:14) . So loving a God, that even He gave room for reprieve. However, in all these, there are some exceptions wherein the victims of God’s wrath found no redemption. Few of these included Eli, his priesthood, and his household, Joel and Abijah (the two sons of Samuel).
When the LORD God of all flesh, for whom nothing is too hard to do, paid an uncomplimentary visit on the house of Eli, despite that Eli was His choice servant and prophet, it was a different ball game entirely. This visit was a confirmation that there is nothing too hard for Him! He’s simply unstoppable even when on destructive missions. Having given Eli series of warnings about his children’s disdain to the things of God, the doom was unavoidable.
For Eli, He said: (1 Sam.2:32-36)
- There will NOT be an old man in his house.
- Eli will see an enemy in His dwelling.
- There shall NOT be an old man in his house forever.
- All the descendants of Eli’ s house shall die in the flower of his age.
- Everyone left in the house of Eli will bow for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread.
Before the sentences above that God passed on Eli’s house, there had been an earlier clause, that seemed to convey the mind of God, that it was His will to terminate the priesthood of Eli and also to wipe out his lineage, simultaneously. The scripture says, “if one man sins against another, God will judge him. But if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him? Nevertheless they did NOT heed the voice of their father, because THE LORD DESIRED TO KILL THEM” (1 Sam. 2:25).
The LORD God of all flesh is to be feared, awed, and hence, must be venerated, accordingly . He should not be taken for granted for anything. He holds the ace in all situations and circumstances that bother on the created order.
SOME SELECTED CASES:
The move and the operations of the LORD God of all flesh brought to bear unprecedented testimony in the life of aged Sarah. Having lost hope apparently, of child birth, this God visited her‘flesh’ at a time no one believed He could. He did not just visit her, He brought back to life the ‘dead fleshy womb.‘ “…and the deadness of Sarah’s womb” (Rom. 4: 19).He performed the same miracle in the life of Hannah, just for the asking. Hannah soon became a mother of nations, after years of bareness, after she intentionally invested her time in prayers at the yearly Shiloh event. Both these and other miracles truly prove Him to be the God of all flesh and substantiate the exhortation of the Psalmist in Psalm 94: 9, “He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see…?”.In other words, He has total and firm control of everything He created! He created the flesh, hence He has everything it requires to right whatever is wrong or abnormal in the flesh.
SIDEBAR
- A brief insight into this shows that the hallmarks of his ministry were severe persecution, rejection, and loneliness, up to imprisonment, multiple times.

- This was one of His means of redirecting His children from their misbehaviors, especially whenever they cry out to Him.
PRAYERS:
- LORD, help me not to fall victim of Your wrath or any human wrath.
- LORD, let Your mercy speak for any of my misdeeds as well as those of my forefathers, so that destructions shall not come upon my lineage.
- LORD, let Your mercy speak for our world. Forgive our sins and heal our land. Exercise Your mercy today in our perverted world! Amen.
PRAYER OF SALVATION:
Peradventure you want to accept the LORD as your Savior, you may please, pray thus: LORD JESUS, I repent, confess, and forsake my sinful ways and I surrender my life to You. I accept You as my LORD and Savior. Amen!
CONCLUSION:
The LORD God of all flesh has the whole world in the hollow of His palm. He can kill and make alive- after all He created all flesh. Think of Pharaoh and his horsemen’s destruction at the red sea. Remember Goliath meeting his Waterloo in the hand of young and inexperienced David. In addition, if we look inwards, we’ll definitely see this God, at one time or the other has done that which appears humanly impossible, even in our lives. And He’s still doing. In nations the world over, we have seen this God in action overthrowing governments and arresting unruly leaders- leaders that had hitherto thought they were invincible. This He usually does in swift and effortless manner. He is truly and undoubtedly the God of all flesh!
